Emptying ourselves like Jesus did requires us to first let go of our will - what we have determined should be done - and instead be filled with God's will. Jesus models this for us, showing that we can't take on God's will while still holding onto ours. God cares about how we live, and wants us to be watchful, wise, and walk in the light, as we seek to make His will ours.
