What Do Your Works Say?

"The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; the word that I have spoken will judge him on the last day." - Jn 12:48

"They profess to know God, but they deny him by their works. They are detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work." - Titus 1:16

In the first verse referenced, Jesus said that His word would judge those who reject Him. Unfortunately, too many think Jesus is referring to mere verbal rejection.  Well, that's not the only form of rejection according to the Holy Spirit (second reference above from Paul's letter to Titus). We can deny God by our works even while our lips are professing to know Him.

So, how do we know if our works deny God? Is it how our works make us feel? Is it how most people view the value of our works? What's the standard?

We're given a clue in Titus... they are "disobedient." Obedience to God's word IS good works. When we ignore the good works God has created for us (see Eph 2:10) or we create some that go beyond God's word, then we become "detestable, disobedient, unfit for any good work" thereby denying God and Christ and leaving ourselves helpless before the righteous Judge on the last day.
